Total Pet Plan: Half the price, 4x the convenience
Imagine if you could offer employees ONE benefit that met all their pet needs. With the Total Pet Plan, now you can!
Can your employees have it all?
With OE 2021 on the horizon, we’re talking about employee benefits, and usually, the answer is, “no.”
Choosing employee benefits is difficult for all and paralyzing for some. Picking one benefit often means forgoing another.
Which is why Pet Benefit Solutions is so excited to be rolling out our new Total Pet Plan. Imagine a pet benefit which includes EVERYTHING employees could want for their pet-and is unbelievably easy for you to implement.
For an insider’s perspective on this package, we surveyed the Voluntary Benefits team at Pet Benefit Solutions. Gilbert Gehler, Sarah Falk, and Diane Page were happy to share their enthusiasm and positive feedback.
The Fantastic Four
Total Pet includes four pet plans. As an employee benefit bundle, the plans cost less than half of their retail fees.
“It’s under $.40 a day,” explains Diane Page.
For less than the cost of a cup of coffee, employees get:
- No exclusions, including pre-existing conditions, on any benefit
- Coverage for all pets of all ages
- Family plan option that covers all pets in their home
“It covers everything that a pet needs,” says Gilbert Gehler. “And it’s so simple to use!”
Each part of Total Pet is an incredible value in and of itself:
PetPlus, discounted pet products, prescriptions, and preventatives[
PetPlus offers up to 50% member discounts on pet prescriptions, preventatives, toys, treats, and food – all delivered to your home. It also has a subscription service, sends reminders when it’s time to restock, and calls the veterinarians to arrange prescriptions.
Diane personally saw savings immediately when she enrolled in PetPlus for her dog, Murphy.
Murphy took a $90/month arthritis medication. With PetPlus it was only $46!
“The savings alone from that medication essentially paid for my premium for the entire year,” says Diane.
We've got a colleague who told me he saves $90 on his pet’s preventatives with PetPlus.

Pet Assure, a veterinary discount plan
“A lot of people don’t like to deal with claim forms. They don’t want to wait for reimbursement,” says Diane. “I especially hear from millennials, that they don’t like to do paperwork.”
Pet Assure gives customers an immediate 25% off all in-house veterinary services at participating veterinarians. No paperwork required! It can even work WITH traditional pet health insurance as an additional discount.
AskVet, a 24/7 pet telehealth line
Sarah Falk, a pet mom herself, saw the benefits of AskVet when her dog Trouble got into (you guessed it!) trouble.
After Trouble ate a box of chocolate glazed donut holes, Sarah quickly chatted with AskVet. (Chocolate is a toxin for dogs.)
“I spoke with the veterinarians there. They patiently went through all the ingredients with me, and they made the calculations. They said that he was fine, just to keep an eye on him. Had I not had access to AskVet, I would have gone to the veterinarian, and it would have cost me much more in time and money.”
Even if you wouldn't use all the plans in Total Pet, you'd still be getting a lot of value for a low price.

ThePetTag, a lost pet recovery service
Millions of pets go missing each year, and without identification, never return home. To identify their pet, pet parents can attach the ThePetTag to their pet’s collar. If the pet goes missing, anyone who finds it can scan the tag with a smartphone to access emergency contact information.
Unlike a microchip, which requires a special scanner, anyone with a smartphone can “read” ThePetTag information. And you can include multiple emergency contacts in case you’re not available.
“Let’s say you go on vacation overseas,” adds Gilbert, “and you leave your pet with family. You can instantly update those phone numbers to keep your pet safe.”
Employers and brokers love it, too!
PBS is hearing positive feedback all around, from employees, brokers, and HR.
Employers and brokers are embracing Total Pet for many reasons:
1. Makes employees happy – Most voluntary benefits are there for emergencies that you hope will never happen. But employees can use the Total Pet Plan regularly. They’ll appreciate their benefit-and their employer-every time they order pet food or buy preventatives.
2. Makes OE easier – There are no complicated decisions to make. Employees who have a pet and want benefits can enroll one pet or can enroll in a family plan that covers two or more pets.
“Total Pet sells itself.”
-Sarah Falk, Pet Benefit Solutions
3. Higher enrollment – Pet Benefit Solutions sees enrollment of 6%-14% on its discount plans.
4. Simplifies payroll – Only two possible plan costs!
5. Streamlined implementation – With only two plan codes, it couldn’t be simpler. No census. No legal agreements. Just an RFI form and a 30-minute webinar, and we set up Total Pet Plan. Companies that are automating their benefits can easily fit Total Pet into their new systems.
“Total Pet is the only package like it in the industry,” concludes Diane.
